Making it Practical
An earlier essay described the philosophy behind my desire to develop a service which offers "total life" consulting, counseling and seminars. The purpose of this essay is to flesh out that philosophy by giving a specific proposal on the subject. I need say no more; you will "follow" what follows.
PHILOSOPHY: People face a variety of bewildering situations in life, situations that can't easily be categorized and assigned to discrete professionals for "treatment." We have emotional, spiritual, relational, financial, legal, health, employment, familial, career and lifestyle issues that we need to calibrate, negotiate and overcome in order to feel that we are successful in life. We sometimes need someone who has the patience, skill, varied experience, insight and honesty to delve into the multitude of conflicting problems that afflict us.
WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM THIS SERVICE: Several types of people: (1) those who know that they face significant obstacles in one or more major area of life and that they, currently, can't seem to overcome; (2) those who know or want to make significant changes in life but through fear, inertia or other reasons are hesitant to explore future options; (3) those who think that life is going pretty well and would like a sort of total life "checkup."
PRESENTER/CONSULTANT: Bill Long, M. Div., Ph. D., J. D. Bill's 30 years in a variety of professions, his rich educational and skill background and his engaging and sympathetic personality qualify him for this. His pastoral experience helps him deal with emotional, relational, career and spiritual issues. His experience as litigation attorney helps him deal with those in conflict or in business planning. His fifteen years in teaching at law schools and colleges prepares him to help people isolate problems and think systematically and sympathetically about them. His writing/editing of 10 books and more than 3600 online essays (drbilllong.com) gives him the necessary precision, focus, energy and commitment not simply to talk about your issues but to suggest workable strategies for improvement. His study of 11 languages also gives him a breadth few can match. Contact Bill at drbilllong@gmail.com or, by cell phone, (503) 798-8349. Bill operates out of Salem, OR.
COSTS: There are two components to the service. One may opt for one or both. The first is an hour-long "problem inventory" consultation. The fee for this is $250 (mileage in addition) and the location is in a place most convenient for you. You can prorate this charge if you gather a group for this purpose. The purpose is for us to talk and identify the central problem areas which require attention. Indeed, you may find that this conversation will be all you need. The second is an entire day session where we take the problems isolated in the "inventory" consultation and address them in a clear and systematic way. The fee for this day is $2,000. Fees are payable at the beginning of the consultation. The goal is to give you a practical road-map for personal improvement/career success. Periodic consultations after the inventory and day-long session can be arranged, at a fee to be negotiated.
A PERFECT GIFT: There are few things as valuable as spending time to think through your present and future. This service would be a perfect gift for someone just finishing school, someone engaged in difficult work situations or decisions, someone who is contemplating major life change and those in the later stages of life who have many decisions regarding their assets, family and loved ones.
